Canning Apple Sauce!

We had our first canning day with our new homeschool group in Bedias. It was a fun day of learning and spending time with one another.

We started out with 120lbs of Gala organic apples, 20 lbs for each family.
The kids helped us prepare the apples by removing the stems.

We washed the apples then started cutting them up. We left the seeds and  skin on the apples
Emelia trying to take a nap on the floor!! Cute, Cute!
The kids continuing to help wash & cut the apples.

The kids having fun on the playground! These little ones kept me on my toes!

After we cut and cored the apples we boiled them. When boiling the apples you want only a little of water in the pan because the apples will give off a lot of liquid.

After boiling the apples down we then blended the apples down. We found that my Vita-mix was the best to blend the apples it crushed the seeds and purred the most efficient.
Christie's teaching abilities are very impressive. She had worksheets and different types of apples for the kids to taste and identify. Christi also was able to teach us her canning skills and let us use the wonderful church building and equipment.  Thank you Christi & Randall!
This was the first kiddo to start playing with the boxes. Ian was having fun stacking them and putting stuff inside!
After a few hours of the boxes being laid outside. The kids managed to get them over to the playground. It is no surprise they came up with a fun thing to do with them!!! They used the boxes to try to go faster down the slide.

This sweet girl kept saying," I went over the speed limit on that one"!

While photographing and observing the children. I thought about the scriptures of Jesus talking about how we must become like little children to enter the kingdom of heaven. Children are so filled with wonder and joy. They live in the now and are so full of life!  They are quick to forgive and when offended they are immediately healed by a simple hug or kiss of love. May we all try to find that childhood wonder we have when our hearts are soft and not beaten up by the trials of life. When we don't feel worried or stressed or sometimes just exhausted from the everyday.  May we look to these children and Jesus and God's word to teach us!

At the end of our 8 or so hour day, we ended up with 51 jars of Apple Sauce!

"Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do "  1 Thessalonians 5:11

If you can imagine these bigger boys were singing while they swung on the swings!
